Effects of organic additives on calcium hydroxide crystallisation during lime slaking

Organic compounds, often used in cement systems as admixtures, may affect the crystallisation and carbonation kinetics of Ca(OH)2, an important phase hydrated cement. Here, we investigated changes Ca(OH)2 morphology presence 3 organic commonly encountered lime-based materials: sucrose, pectin calcium lignosulfonate. The additives were introduced either before or after lime slaking to determine influence temperature. crystals supernatant solutions characterised at time 6 months ageing using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction optical emission spectroscopy. Our results indicate that is modified by characteristics molecules which promote formation with habits can result faster carbonation, effect detrimental reinforced concrete. These effects are enhanced when slaking, likely a thermal degradation.
